A private plane carrying Sen. Olympia McCarthy crashes in rugged terrain on the Iron Lake Reservation, killing all on board. Retired PI Cork O'Connor and his son Stephen, who have Ojibwe heritage, are among the first to reach the crash scene along with Ojibwe men from the reservation. The FBI quickly secures the scene, dismisses the early searchers, and declines the assistance of the county sheriff. When Stephen returns to the crash scene he is stopped by military personnel who will not identify their branch of service. Meanwhile, early searchers at the scene begin to disappear without a trace. The narration by David Chandler adds excitement to the twisty plot and provides nuanced traits to the characters.
VERDICT An excellent audio presentation of a very solid mystery. Government conspiracy, collusion, and black ops encounter Cork O'Connor's investigative skills in the realm of Native American spirituality and mysticism. Highly recommended.
