Riley Rhodes comes from a family of supernaturally talented cursebreakers. Hoping to turn this ability into a legitimate business, she takes on a job at a Scottish castle. On the first night, she shares a kiss with a handsome stranger; the next day, she is horrified to find that he is disgraced archaeologist Clark Edgeware, fresh off a scandal and trying to redeem his career. While Clark is trying to discredit Riley and Riley is trying to get even, the two find that being stuck together isn’t awful after all. Shane East and Saskia Maarleveld narrate Clark and Riley, two headstrong individuals determined not to fall in love but helpless against the sparks that begin to fly. With a silky British accent, East allows listeners into Clark’s inner thoughts; for her part, Maarleveld brings out Riley’s headstrong yet vulnerable nature. Listeners will be captivated by the picturesque setting, and though the plot occasionally strains credulity, the characters’ growing attraction satisfies.
