Double Alchemy: Climax picks up with the two lovers where the first book left off. Quinn, the top warlock in the UK, is facing dissenting members of the Warlock Council, a powerful ex-girlfriend witch who doesn't quite understand that he's off the market, and the opportunity to destroy the warlock's number one enemy for good. Quinn offs the warlock enemy, makes nice with his ex, and kicks out the opposition with a snap of his fingers, leaving readers to wonder what, exactly, is the climax? In the meantime, Cade receives a near-death injury (again) and spends part of the book being healed by his fellow sprites. This is the first time Cade has met other sprites, yet rather than being a major plot point, these weeks are reduced to a few sentences shared among sexual interludes.
VERDICT This second book is a disappointment and a missed opportunity for Mac Nichol to expand her world. The novel features superficial story lines and no character development. Only for die-hard fans.
