In an hour you will have forgotten you read this. This is the reality that Quinn Fleming has lived with since she was attacked three months ago and left for dead, not able to remember the events or her attacker. Now, unable to form new memories and living day-to-day, she witnesses a murder in the alley behind the flower shop where she works. How do you help the police when you cannot remember the event yourself? As she struggles to help Detective Reyes, Quinn starts to find clues that she is being followed and is faced with protecting herself from someone she can’t remember. In the audio version of Driscoll’s (“FBI K-9 Mysteries”; “NYPD Negotiators”) amateur-sleuth mystery, narrator Cynthia Farrell’s rhythm and tone flow with the action and change as needed, but the character of Quinn is lost in the reading, with the narrator lacking the feelings that Quinn is experiencing on the page.
VERDICT While Quinn’s tale is an excellent thriller-mystery on an unusual subject with only minor writing issues, the narration lacks the feel of the characters and their experiences and falls flat.
