Arcady is moving into their new identity as a noble but destitute student at the University of Vatra. When they discover that the university will relaunch its magic trials, whose winner will receive a full scholarship, Arcady knows this is their chance to fulfill their dreams of study and to prove that their grandsire was not the Plaguebringer. Meanwhile, the dragon Everen is back in Vere Celene and has fallen out of favor with all dragons, including his mother, the queen. As the dragons battle wraiths in their land, and Arcady fights to survive the magic trials, both characters will come to realize that the only way to defeat the ancient forces that are approaching is to once again join together, no matter the distance between them. But this very same connection may be the thing that destroys them and both of their worlds. The novel is narrated from multiple points of view (including those of protagonists and antagonists), giving a well-rounded vision of the characters and setting.
VERDICT Lam concludes the duology that began with Dragonfall in this action-filled novel with the highest of stakes. A delightful dragon story.
