Photographers Gross and Daley (
Gardens of the Hudson Valley) visit 20 farmhouses located in the Northeastern United States. Many of these dwellings have been restored by the current inhabitants, and their restoration experiences as well as the history of the properties are shared here. The styles reflect the owners' tastes, from the whimsy of Mildred's House to the more formal style in Hudson Bush, and are primarily furnished with family heirlooms and vintage pieces. More than 200 color photographs depict these restored 18th- and 19th-century farmhouses that reflect the vernacular style of their East Coast locations and period architecture from Federal to Arts & Crafts.
VERDICT Those interested in a homey, country style of decorating or in home restoration will be inspired by the ways in which these farmhouse owners have transformed these buildings.
