Unfortunately, the Fae who run her university from behind the scenes have different ideas. A mysterious disease is killing them off, and Elena is likely the only person who can save them—maybe because she's Halven (half Fae, half human). Things would be complicated enough, but there's also her handsome neighbor Derek. Not only is he distracting, but he's Halven as well and convinced he's the only one who can protect her.
VERDICT Although a bit heavy on exposition, this is an exciting new fantasy adventure series from Barnard (True Blue; Blue Streak ), with lots of potential.
