Brooklyn's stunning flex dance scene gets a worthy treatment in this excellent documentary. It takes us through a season of dance that culminates with flex artist Flizzo's competition at Brooklyn's Battlefest event and a contemporary dance performance that includes flex dancer Jay Donn. Filmmakers Schoo and Nichols do a wonderful job of placing flex dance in a cultural and social context: these dancers have few options and opportunities and their battles go far beyond the dance floor.
VERDICT A fascinating portrait of flex culture, featuring great moves by talented dancers, a captivating picture of their lives and struggles, and a community determined to push the limits of its art.
