Readers will want to head immediately to their nearest dog rescue organization once they’ve flipped through the heart-warming photos of 64 rescue dogs and their people from animal photographer and pit bull advocate Murray (
Pit Bull Heroes;
Peanut Butter Dogs;
Peanut Butter Puppies). The photos truly capture the love, happiness, and connection between the pairs. It’s worth noting that many owners previously owned rescue dogs or are adding to a multi-rescue dog family. The author asks each human the same questions: Does the dog have any nicknames? Tell me about Gotcha day. What are the dog’s favorite things to do? Does your pet have any silly quirks? Anything else we should know? Unfortunately the repetitive nature of the answers doesn’t add depth or balance to the book. Library shelves are crowded with so many other similar photo essay books on rescues, and sadly this lovely book doesn’t stand out.
VERDICT This title may be best for collections with generous budgets or a demanding audience, and it would make a thoughtful gift for dog owners and would-be adopters.
