In her previous adventure, aristocrat and arms dealer Constance Halfwhistle lost her father and her family estate in an interdimensional firefight. Now, the Museum of England is demanding Constance return the rare artifacts in her family home—or suffer spectacularly grim consequences. Yanking a palatial estate back from another dimension is no easy feat; to do so, Constance and her eclectic piratical crew must steal highly volatile alien artifacts from aristocrats across Europe. Erin Bennett marvelously narrates a vast cast of characters from various perspectives. There are distinct accents for Constance, American spy Liberty Trusdale, and action-driven third-person descriptions. Throughout it all, Bennett makes it clear who is speaking and what is happening. She gives each character agency and identity, pulling listeners fully into their dramatic schemes. There is a lot going on in this story, but Chatsworth’s writing and Bennett’s narration work together to keep the story moving and make even the most fantastical plots believable.
