Dez, a college senior, is willing to do whatever it takes to secure an internship at a prestigious fashion magazine, even go out on a date with the pugnacious and egotistical son of the editor in chief. When he invites her to his family’s island for Easter weekend, Dez knows this is her chance to impress his mother. Once they arrive at the island, she immediately begins questioning what is happening: she is required to sign an NDA, her phone is taken away, there is no lock on the door to her room, and everything is the same shade of pink. The family is not what Dez expected, which makes the visit uncomfortable, but it’s on the evening of Easter dinner that the real terror starts. Dez is a fantastic narrator for this seemingly idyllic holiday that turns into a massacre. Once she digs deeper beneath the surface, she is able to see how disturbing the family really is, and she must figure out who to trust in order to survive. Taking on big topics such as eugenics, racism, and sexism, Dawson (Bloom) elegantly tells a story that is part family drama, part Saw.
