Paulsen and Wang debut with a
Bachelor-inspired romantic comedy about two women who turn the world of reality TV dating upside down. Former rodeo queen Krystin wants to get married and have kids, but none of the single men around her meet her specifications. So she joins the cast of
Hopelessly Devoted, a show where dozens of women vie for the heart of this season’s Hopeless Romantic, Josh. Lauren has never done anything for the right reasons, and she’s definitely not on Hopelessly Devoted for them either. She hopes to gain social media followers and then leave when the time is right. Then Krystin catches Lauren’s eye, and she finds that she doesn’t want to leave after all. Can they break free of expectations and find love with each other? Mara Wilson and Lindsey Dorcus offer animated portrayals of Krystin, Lauren, Josh, and secondary characters. Though the narration is breezy and appropriately humorous, it also shows the characters’ growth as they learn to follow their hearts.
VERDICT A perfect summer listen for fans of Alison Cochrun’s The Charm Offensive and reality TV dating shows.
