Coll MacTaggert, Viscount Glendarrill, must marry—and soon—or his English mother will cut off all the funding that he needs for his Scottish estate. Coll needs the money to take care of his land and tenants. Unfortunately for him, the milk-and-water misses of English society don’t tempt him. Many are downright afraid of the big, burly Scot. For his part, Coll despairs of finding a woman who can even carry on a decent conversation. Finding himself backstage at the theater to escape his mother’s latest attempt at matchmaking, Coll meets the lovely and talented Persephone Jones. After rescuing her from a an abusive situation, he finds he is unwilling to walk away, though an actress would not be a socially acceptable wife. As Coll ponders this, the duo discover someone wants to kill Persephone. As their mutual attraction blossoms, they work to find the would-be assassin. Finally, Persephone’s secret is revealed, and it is a secret worth killing for.
VERDICT This is an entertaining end to the “Wild, Wicked Highlanders” trilogy that can also be read independently. Fans of historical romance will enjoy, as will fans of the author.
