Hope in 60 Seconds: Encountering the God of the Impossible

Baker writes an account of experiencing a conversion to Christ at age 21, as an atheist and young mother with a substance use disorder; soon she was posting 60-second videos expressing her newfound faith. The book begins with Baker’s arrest by a policeman who was gentle with her; then it flashes back to the incidents that led up to that day, including rebelling as a teenager living with her mother and stepfather, and later being sent to California to live with her father, who had no permanent housing at the time and was living in a tent encampment. Baker was eventually taken in by a kindly Christian couple who, to her surprise, did not force their beliefs on her; she writes that their loving example influenced her to become Christian. As a new believer, Baker was pushy in her attempt to bring others to belief in Christ, she writes, but she eventually learned a gentler approach, exemplified in this book that interweaves personal stories, Bible passages, and prayers to describe a journey of forgiveness, hope, and faith.
