Garbera’s second “WiCKed Sisters” book features two main characters who have always felt themselves to be somewhat
other. Witchy Liberty Wakefield embraces her differences and loves the spooky season. But this year she’s dealing with the mortality of her beloved grandmother, who also accidentally revealed the name of Lib’s deadbeat dad in a moment of confusion. Determined to finally learn more about the man who left her mother, Liberty enlists the help of resident nerd Merle Rutland, computer expert and local D & D dungeon master. Merle jumps at the chance to help Liberty, as he’s always been intrigued by the vivacious woman who seems so opposite him. As they spend more time together—Merle looking for Liberty’s father while teaching her the ins and outs of a campaign, Liberty showing him how to harness the Samhain to bring peace to all parts of his life—their chemistry is off the charts. Their past secrets could draw them together—or keep them apart. Unfortunately, the writing isn’t always as engaging as the interesting premise promises.
VERDICT Readers who enjoyed the first series entry, The Bookbinder’s Guide to Love, may want to pick up this sequel.
