Published just in time for the windup to the 2016 presidential race, this book from Lamb (coauthor, Whatever the Cost) provides in-depth coverage of the life and political and religious views of GOP candidate Mike Huckabee. The thoughtful narrative strives to be less about promoting a political candidate and more about presenting a straightforward portrait of the man running for office. A good amount of the material covers Huckabee's spirituality and its influence on his political views and private affairs. His professional successes and failures are also covered, but in a one-sided way, with glowing praise from friends and enemies weighing against negative press or ill-advised statements from Huckabee. While on the rosy side, as can be expected from an authorized biography, the book still makes absorbing reading, in large part thanks to Lamb's excellent prose.
VERDICT Well written and important to get for the election season, this biography will be of interest to fans of Huckabee and, to a lesser extent, people interested in rounding out their knowledge of the Republican candidates.
