In Flowers’s third installment in the “Farm to Table Mystery” series (following
Put Out to Pasture), Shiloh Bellamy is back and still battling to save her family’s fruit farm. Eschewing her career as a television producer, Shiloh returned to Cherry Glen, MI, determined to help her ailing father and turn their floundering farm around. Unfortunately, calamity and corpses abound in the small town, and Shiloh is forever forced to employ amateur sleuthing skills to save herself and her friends. This time, the body in question belongs to local brewery owner Wallace Fields. Due to his shady business practices, resentful children, and cheating wife, everyone seems to have a motive to kill Wallace. Can Shiloh sort through the suspects before she becomes the next victim? Flower crafts a cozy culinary mystery with an engaging, eclectic cast of characters. Listeners who previously sampled this series should note that the narrator changed following the first installment; Rachel Dulude brings a congenial air to the gentle read. Her portrayal of the likable leading lady is compelling.
VERDICT Will appeal to listeners seeking an amusing, atmospheric culinary mystery. Recommended for fans of Maddie Day, Sarah Graves, and Barbara Ross.
