This near coffee table–sized book by the McKennas lists the authors’ personal Irish favorites and is divided geographically into chapters “Dublin and the East,” “the Midlands,” “Cork and the South West,” “Galway and the West,” and “Northern Ireland.” There is no numerical ranking, but each entry contains a stunning photo of the locale (on the right-hand page) and a brief description (on the left page). There is a color-coding for terms such as magnificent places, reflective places, and human places. Plus, at the end is a “find, walk, eat, sleep” directory on how to get to each place, visit other sites nearby, and where to eat and stay. The photos are fantastic, but the print is small, which makes reading difficult. Additionally, the color-coding terms can be challenging to differentiate in low light. The directory often requires readers to flip back and forth between the main entry in the text and the back of the book. Luckily, there are thumbnail snaps to confirm you are looking at the correct entry.
