Originally published in the UK, where it became a
Sunday Times best seller, this first cookbook from popular British food blogger and writer Dunn gets its American debut. Within the short but sweet cookbook are a mix of 100 of the author’s most requested recipes from her blog, as well as a selection of new delicious delights, ranging from cakes and cookies to traybakes and scones. Dunn’s British baking background will be readily apparent to U.S. readers, beginning with the book’s use of metric measurements in recipes (though an imperial conversion chart is provided) and her embrace of things like digestive biscuits, but also through the inventive incorporation of classic UK favorites into her own dishes, like lemon drizzle cupcakes, no-churn cherry Bakewell ice cream, and no-bake Millionaire’s Cheesecake.
VERDICT While there is no dearth of cookbooks dedicated to the yummy treats of Great Britain (the books by contestants and judges on the Great British Bake Off alone would fill a small-sized library), beginning bakers, especially fans of Dunn’s blog, will appreciate her approachable writing style and easy-to-follow recipes.
