Published to coincide with the 80th anniversary of Jimi Hendrix’s birth, Nov. 27, 1942, it’s lamentable to think of all that he might have created had he not passed away at age 27 in 1970. Still, in the four years of his mainstream success, he produced a remarkable legacy and remains unsurpassed as a virtuoso. To Rolling Stone magazine (and many of his peers), Hendrix was nothing less than the greatest guitar player of all time, and his music seems as vibrant today as it did 50 years ago. Sprinkled throughout are quotations from family, friends, and fellow musicians that remind readers of the vast reach and influence of this remarkable artist.
