Just After Midnight

Faith has left her borderline abusive husband and is hiding in a cabin on the beach when she meets teenage Sarah, who is devastated by her mother's recent suspicious death and by her father's selling her beloved horse Midnight. The two establish a bond, and Faith meets Sarah's grandmother, whom she immediately trusts and whom Sarah wishes to live with instead of her father. They beg Faith to take Sarah on a trip to visit Midnight until her grandmother can get custody. Meanwhile, Faith suspects she's being followed. Sarah convinces Faith to shadow Midnight from show to show during the long, hot summer. Ultimately, Sarah comes to terms with what she witnessed on the terrible night her mother died, and Faith learns to face her fears, trust her feelings, and make new friends. She also comes to understand the relationship Sarah has forged with her talented and sensitive dressage horse.
