Zane Hollander and Sophie Birch are both seeking image changes. Zane, the surfing world's resident bad boy, needs to tame his reputation to earn a spot on the board of a charity in which he believes. Sophie, former university researcher, wants to prove to herself and her boss she has the confidence and competence to plan events on her own. After a disastrous surf lesson, Zane and Sophie realize they can help each other for the short time they are together. As they spend more time in each other's company, their attraction grows, and they start to evaluate the futures for which they are fighting.
VERDICT This opener to the "Kisses in the Sand" series by Bielman (Kissing the Maid of Honor) is an excellent beach read. Zane and Sophie have depth and chemistry, while the seaside setting will make any reader reach for the sunscreen—even in the middle of winter.
