This slow-paced documentary focuses on Jean-Marie Raaijmakers, a Dutch pastor serving 25 villages in the French Pyrénées. The only narrator is our 75-year-old subject. He speaks of his early history, the love of his life, and how he became a pastor. Included are black-and-white photos of his youth along with breathtaking views of the countryside and his flock. He relates his story with simplicity, and one must be patient as he peels away each layer to reveal the man the villagers have come to love. The film ends with a surprising yet satisfying twist. The sole bonus feature is the trailer.
VERDICT The pace is slow but worth the effort; recommended for all audiences.
