In Carlyle’s latest “Love on Holiday” Victorian romance (following
Duke Gone Rogue), James Pembroke has been down on his luck, but the windfall of inheriting the family title and a manor in Scotland may turn his life around. When he collides with the beautiful and spirited Lucy Westmont at King’s Cross train station, he has a sudden gut feeling about her that he hasn’t felt since before his failures. Lucy is taking a holiday to see her beloved aunt. There she reencounters (in her aunt’s drawing room, no less) the gentleman that she found irresistible on the train, which seems like fate. The undeniable attraction between them means that Lucy will have to help James find a solution to his problems, which also allows them to find happiness together.
VERDICT Fans of Carlyle’s series will enjoy the beauty of Scotland and the magnetic attraction between James and Lucy. Also hand to those who love smart heroines who aren’t afraid to risk going after what they want in love and life, as well as the heroes who adore and support them wholeheartedly. Victoria Alexander and Lenora Bell are good read-alikes.
