This second novella in Arend's "Takhini Shifters" series follows Damon Black to a remote castle in Scotland. After a delayed flight, lost luggage, and an accident on a rented motorcycle, Damon's inner wolf is itching to be free. Addie MacShay, with her photographic memory, is one of the best catalogers out there. It also doesn't hurt that it keeps her from people, since she was born a she-wolf with special empathetic powers. The second they meet, Addie is in Duncan's arms, kissing him, but only to throw some other shifters off the scent. The two end up falling for each other as they attempt to find a missing will for the castle. Laird Wolf mixes mystery and a unique mythology of shifters in a supernatural romance that focuses on the strong chemistry between two self-assured characters.
VERDICT Fans of Arend's previous works (Rocky Retreat) will enjoy the animalistic passion, wry humor, and strong characters they have come to expect from the author. New readers just might find themselves hunting down her "Takhini Wolves" and "Granite Lake Wolves" series for a longer read.
