Lord William Lancaster is making a journey across the world to fulfill the wishes of his best friend, who is recently deceased. He’ll escort that friend’s sister from India to England so that she may have a better life. But upon meeting Anna, William begins to think about a different future for her, one that may include her becoming his wife. As the daughter of a courtesan, she is wholly unsuitable, and frankly, Anna doesn’t want to remain in one place for long anyway. But love may still intervene to hold them together. While the pacing is slower than might be expected for a romance of this length, the characters are well-wrought and worthy of exploration.
VERDICT A nice addition from Dickson (The Earl’s Wager for a Lady) for voracious historical romance readers.
