After a misdiagnosis forces big-time movie director Aubrey Reynolds to realize she was missing out on life, she drops everything to do, see, and experience the things she has always wanted to do. Trips to the Pike Place Market in Seattle, Banff National Park, and the Minnesota State Fair are all on the list. As she moves through the to-dos, she circles closer to her biggest regret: home. She hasn’t returned to Dusty Valley, OK, since she abruptly left ten years earlier to pursue her dreams, leaving behind her friends and fiancé Cole Haywood. While she knows she never got over Cole, Aubrey is sure there’s no way to fix that mistake—she’s just hoping to apologize and move on with her plans. Aubrey’s not the only one with regrets, though. Cole knows he made mistakes, as well. With the time to heal, the two must determine whether there’s a way for their paths to merge again, despite the past. Aubrey’s determined pursuit of her bucket list is particularly enjoyable and much appreciated.
VERDICT This delightful book from Dover (“Gloves Off” series) is about what happens when you return home with a barrelful of remorse and hopes. While some plot points veer into predictable territory, they never stop the warm feelings readers will have for these characters as the story unfolds.
