Sharma offers a sparkling standout finale to her hugely popular “If Shakespeare Were an Auntie” trilogy, following
Tastes Like Shakkar. A creative retelling of Shakespeare’s
Twelfth Night, this book sees two best friends, Deepak Datta and Veera Mathur, getting married on a whim while abroad in India and using the arrangement to advance both their career goals. Filled with humor and heat, this friends-to-lovers, dual-POV romance is entertaining and lighthearted, featuring fun cameos with other beloved couples in the series. Narrators Vikas Adam and Soneela Nankani provide lively yet nuanced performances, capturing the characters’ sizzling chemistry and the comic mishaps that lead them toward their much-deserved HEA. Though the book traverses some thorny subjects, including misogyny, parental neglect, and gaslighting, romance lovers will be invested in the characters’ story until the end. Sharma’s heartfelt author’s note at the end makes for a satisfying conclusion to this outstanding series.
VERDICT Not to be missed, this charming series closer is sure to please fans of Sara Desai’s The Marriage Game and Sonali Dev’s Recipe for Persuasion.
