Winter narrates her intimate debut about opening her marriage. After a day caring for her two young sons, a weary Winter goes on a walk. She comes across a former colleague who invites her for drinks. At the bar, she meets the colleague’s friend and finds him attractive. Later, feeling guilty yet invigorated, Winter tells her husband, Stewart, who eagerly insists that she pursue the man. This whim leads to years of boyfriends, jealousies, and an emptiness that Winter seeks to heal through individual and couples therapy. Along her journey of self-discovery, she learns more about her parents’ relationship, which was also open when she was younger. Winter provides various voices for the people in her life, most notably her always-chipper mother. Her recollection of her sexual adventures sounds akin to an erotic romance novel, spicy details and all. Meanwhile, she tenderly discusses her own relationship with her mother, who is later diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease.
