This documentary takes a unique approach to illustrating the world of dance, with segments covering the art form in Argentina, Bali, Brazil, French Polynesia, Georgia, India, Ireland, Japan, Madagascar, Morocco, New Zealand, Panama, Spain, Tanzania, and the United States. The film has no narration or dialog; each piece lasts only several minutes and visually transitions smoothly to the next. While most of the sections are purely depictions of different international dance styles, several employ the choreography and gestures to tell ministories or make reference to contemporary culture or events. The film presents stunning views of the countries and how the emotions and importance of dance are reflected in various societies. The film is a very strong introduction and provides just enough enticement to find out more about each country's dance traditions. There is one very brief scene of nudity and one with children smoking cigarettes.
VERDICT Recommended for most dance collections.
