Natasha’s Kitchen, Kravchuk offers family-friendly recipes in her first cookbook. In the introduction, Kravchuk shares her story of arriving in the United States from Ukraine in 1989 as a child and details the struggles her family faced in their new country and then later her journey learning to cook for her own family. Kravchuk’s Ukrainian heritage features in a few dishes in this collection, such as pierogi, rugelach, and a great borscht recipe, but most of the recipes are United States standards, such as lasagna, chicken noodle soup, and fresh peach pie. The recipes use readily available, simple pantry ingredients, the instructions are straightforward, and the pictures show the appealing finished products. There are also a few in-progress pictures for times when where words may not be enough instruction (e.g., for making a lattice-top pie). All aspects of the day’s meals are covered, with chapters on breakfast foods, mains, salads, soups, and sweets.
VERDICT Kravchuk’s large social media presence and her easy recipes, perfect for busy weekdays, should make this book popular.
