This work is a tribute to the U.S. National Park Service and is a must for those planning a trip to a national park, or for those who simply want to know more about them. Well-written and presented, it can be used as supplemental reading for secondary to college U.S. history courses. It opens with an introduction and explanation of how to use the book. The sites are organized by regions and also by states in alphabetical order. There are also maps of the area and each individual state as well. Breathtaking photographs are included in most, but not all, descriptions.
VERDICT Readers can learn about national parks they are interested in visiting and discover some they may not have even known existed. The National Park Service protects and preserves sites, and this work does as well.
