Designer Homent (Needlepoint: A Modern Stitch Directory) hosts #stitchmondays, a weekly Instagram show about needlepoint stitches. Here she shares her favorite dynamic and textural stitches and 10 projects that use them. She begins by discussing necessary tools and materials and skills like preparing a frame, reading a chart, beginning and ending stitches, and choosing stitches for a project. The directory of stitches that follows is arranged into categories stitchers can use to bring a project to life: movement, texture, sky, water, land, and borders. For each stitch, Homent advises on the best uses for it and offers clearly written instructions, a diagram, and a photograph of the finished stitch. She concludes with instructions for 10 colorful projects: a banner decorated with birds and blossoms, cake flags, a tissue box cover, a flowered notebook cover, a mirror frame, coasters, a beach bag, napkin rings, a trinket tray, and a wallet. For each project, she includes a list of the necessary supplies, stitches used, a chart, and easy-to-follow, step-by-step instructions.
VERDICT A lovely, useful book for the more experienced needlepointer hoping to add complexity to the stitches they use, although some of the projects here could be completed by a beginner.
