This brief collection of six essays, written and narrated by the ever popular Kaling (The Mindy Project), cover traditional “Mindy” territory: social awkwardness, only in LA situations, and life as a single mom. Overall they are entertaining, but none of the essays particularly stands out. Perhaps the strongest entry is “Kind of Hindu,” in which Kaling addresses the challenges of wanting to follow her faith, but being unsure how to do so, and her not so smooth attempt to have her daughter’s faith started on the right foot. The at times poignant “Help Is on the Way” raises the issues of being a single mom, without a mom of one’s own to rely on.
VERDICT Created originally for Amazon Original Stories and free for Prime members, combined with its listen time of fewer than three hours, demand for this collection will be less than normal.
