Dove Award–winning worship musician Wickham describes this book as an earnest effort to help prayerful (and not-so-prayerful) Christians learn to pray. Tied inextricably to the Bible, Wickham wants readers to have conversations with God that transform their lives. In 40 short, readable chapters, he offers personal musings around biblical passages based on the order of the Bible. This is accompanied by a prayer as well as reflective questions intended to engage the reader on a deeper level. It also suggests ways in which this can be used in small groups. Wickham’s zeal is palpable; he wants to share in the best way possible. However, this book is probably not for veteran prayer warriors steeped in Lectio Divina or centering prayer practices.
VERDICT Not a bad first step for seekers stuck in the dark night of the soul; Wickham might be able to help.
