Years ago, a diagnosis of dissociative identity disorder derailed the preservationist career of Kenetria Nash. With a surprise visit from the estate’s conservation trust and a Nor’easter bearing down, Ken is left trapped on an island with strangers. Things get worse when one of them is found dead, and she is the main suspect. Caught in a web of lies, Ken and her alters must solve the murder before it’s too late. Susan Dalian expertly narrates Ken and her many alters, who range from middle-aged adults to a young child of four. Dalian’s narration makes it easier to keep track of who is speaking as the book jumps back and forth between Ken and her alters. While the premise of Cole’s (When No One Is Watching) latest is intriguing, the storyline is sometimes disjointed, making for an occasionally bewildering listening experience.
