The Little Ferraro Kitchen, Ferraro is releasing her second cookbook focused on Mediterranean cooking, after
The Weeknight Mediterranean Kitchen. Most of the dishes in this book use a Dutch oven, although some of them use sheet-pan cooking techniques as well as other one-pot cooking tools. Since Dutch-oven cooking often focuses on heavier “cold weather” dishes, it is nice to see that this book includes many lighter recipes, such as spring cod with leeks and fava beans. Ferraro occasionally skirts the definition of one-pot cooking by adding suggested sides to her dishes as well. There is also a bonus chapter on salads to complete meals. A well-stocked pantry and spice cabinet will be required for many of these recipes, which also rely heavily on fresh herbs, but many of the ingredients appear more than once in the cookbook, making the effort of obtaining them worthwhile.
VERDICT Readers and libraries with large cookbook collections will likely find this to be a good addition. The recipes are written clearly, and the techniques are accessible to beginners.
