Our Tragic Universe

Thomas (scarlettthomas.co.uk) follows up her well-received novels PopCo (2004) and The End of Mr. Y (2006) with another delightful book. While struggling to write her novel, Meg Carpenter keeps herself and her useless boyfriend afloat by writing genre fiction and reviewing books for the local paper. When Meg receives a pseudoscientific book promising everlasting life, the narrative takes a metaphysical turn through a sprinkling of vignettes, flashbacks, and storyless stories. Though this intriguing tale will leave audiences with more questions than answers, those willing to stick out the ride will not regret it. The excellent narration by British actress Sarah Le Fevre transports readers to Devon. Sure to be appreciated by those liking nontraditional novels such as Audrey Niffenegger's The Time Traveler's Wife.
