On a New York college campus, 19-year-old Jesse Cole is beaten by his high school friend and college roommate Ryan Murdock after Jesse tries to kiss him. Small, shy, and nervous Jesse is reassigned to a new dorm and moves in with Nick Moretti, a six-and-a-half-foot-tall, 24-year-old with six-pack abs who is not afraid of a fight. In order to establish a congenial roommate relationship and set boundaries, Jesse and Nick place a line of tape down the middle of the room. As Jesse and Nick get acquainted, their code is not to go out of bounds in their living quarters or in their friendship. Words become meaningless, though, as the two men cannot hold back their mutual attraction. Detroit-based Barley has published three romances as Aleah Barley, including
Leaving Las Vegas and
Too Hot To Handle.
VERDICT Explicit and detailed, Barley's title leaves nothing to the imagination as Jesse and Nick become lovers. Nick's backstory involving his relationship with his mother adds complexity to the plot.
