February 14, 2018, Building 12, Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, Parkland, FL—a lone gunman, a former student, enters the building, shoots 34 students and teachers, killing 17, and flees. Director Minn has made an outstanding film in the aftermath of this event that held the nation's attention and gave birth to the March for Our Lives movement. The day's events are reenacted and analyzed, and viewers come to understand what really happened inside Building 12, which alone makes the film worth seeing. The video also becomes a moving testimonial to the victims and the survivors, lensed with a masterly eye. Where there might be bathos, the audience is offered genuine love and grieving. It is not easy to watch this film, but it is important that we do so because it presents an objective account of the episode and serves as a memorial to the dead.
VERDICT Strongly recommended for public libraries, as well as education and history collections. Some of the film is graphic, and before viewing, students would need preparation, especially high school classes.
