Broadcaster Vin Scully is a figure whom most Major League Baseball fans recognize. Employed by the Brooklyn (now Los Angeles) Dodgers for an astounding 67 years, he was known for his soothing, calm voice, his eloquence with language, and his storytelling ability. Not only did he call games for the Dodgers, but he was a broadcaster for countless playoffs, World Series, and other nationally aired baseball games, along with golf and football matches too. He even did a stint as a game show host. Before his death at age 94 in 2022, Scully refused all efforts to assemble an authorized biography about him. To produce this book, award-winning journalist Hoffarth (coauthor, Tales from the USC Trojans Sideline) gathered 67 tributes from Scully’s fellow broadcasters, print journalists, friends, and others connected with baseball.
