Georgia May Jackson, a sous-chef in a Parisian restaurant, just can’t get a break. In one fell swoop, she loses her job, her boyfriend, and, to top it all off, her sense of taste. When she receives an email from her estranged mother, Georgia opts for a change of scenery, traveling to visit her mother on a small island off the coast of Washington. While there, she reconnects with her mother, falls in love with her mother’s rather bellicose neighbor, and learns about her family’s mysterious magical legacy. Narrator Traci Odom voices the burnt-out, hurt, and lost Georgia May as she stands up for herself and goes on a journey to reconnect with her estranged mother. Odom enhances the audio with excellent French accents and an inviting warmth. Listeners will likely get wrapped up in the novel’s delicious descriptions of the food and the heartwarming relationships among its characters. There are recipes at the end.
