Star-crossed since high school due to their mothers’ bitter rivalry, Ryan and Evita just might get a better ending than Romeo and Juliet if they manage to reconcile their families when a twist of fate brings them all together. Evita Machado is excited for bonding time with her big, hearty family at a Nantucket beach house. When there’s a disastrous double-booking, Evita and Ryan, the eldest son of the Hatfields, must placate the situation. Ryan makes a quick plan to divide the cottage to appease everyone and salvage their vacation. If only their families weren’t so different and stubborn, maybe Evita and Ryan would consider their own hearts’ desires: to pursue the chemistry they’ve had since they were lab partners long ago. Baird excellently presents a contrast of characters and family dynamics, particularly through the Machados’ distinct three-generation Puerto Rican household. Forced proximity and family wars renew the unrelenting attraction between Ryan and Evita, leading to a slow-burn romance.
