This 21st installment in Thor’s “Scot Harvath” series opens with the assassination of American diplomat and spy Eli Ritter, who was acting as the chief negotiator on a secret mission to form an alliance of the United States, Australia, India, and Japan. Former secret service agent and covert counterterrorist operative Scot Harvath, who is just returning from a dangerous rescue mission in Afghanistan, is hastily assigned to find Ritter’s murderer. Scot’s investigation takes him to India, where former police officer Vijay Chabra is appointed to help him better understand the cultural mores and navigate the criminal underground. Asha, a beautiful and skilled Indian operative, joins forces with Vijay and Scot. Narrator Armand Schultz provides excellent characterizations, particularly when voicing the humorous repartee between Vijay and Scot as they travel through India during Diwali, India’s festival of lights. Listeners will be immersed in India’s sights and smells, which are vividly evoked by Schultz’s dramatic narration.
VERDICT A winner for Scot Harvath fans, and engaging enough that new listeners may also enjoy following Scot’s dangerous and exciting exploits.
