For the accomplished and, perhaps, compulsive knitter, Denmark-based fiber artist Rytter, who’s behind the VaskavullaKnit brand of knitting patterns, has designed a delightful assortment of decorations and ornaments for the Easter holiday. The designs are perfect for using up leftover bits of yarn. Though small, they are complex—tiny rabbits with even tinier ears, and mini hens, all worked in the round and stuffed; eggs knitted over a Styrofoam base, overlaid with embroidery of metallic threads and beads; and feather designs. Various weights of yarns and sizes of needles may be used to customize these projects. Instructions are given for steaming a completed project to tighten the stitches and hold in the stuffing. An advanced-beginner knitter might want to experiment with these projects, especially the designs for feathers, to practice increasing and decreasing stitches to build up confidence before attempting a lacy shawl or sweater. There’s also some macramé and a tiny bird that’s just tied-together scraps of yarn.
VERDICT A charming book for experienced knitters.
