Fresh out of college, Erin Brewster is determined to make a permanent home for herself by teaching at Hawthorn Hill, the all-boys boarding school where she spent summers with her late grandfather. This means she is absolutely in no way allowed to have a crush on one of her students, even if senior Zach Shepherd has intense eyes and a penchant for playing her knight in a Hawthorn blazer. When life throws Erin a curveball, however, she's sure anything that may have happened with Shep—good or bad—is out of reach. Fast-forward three years, as an even more intense, determined, and attractive Shep walks into the Hawthorn faculty meeting as a new Fellow.
VERDICT A good choice for readers wanting to try books featuring BDSM, as Parker ("The Compass" series) makes use of a few different kinks throughout, but only a few scenes appear in their entirety. The shifts in Shep's personality over the three-year gap could have been fleshed out more, but it's a minor quibble in an enjoyable read.
