In Whiddon’s latest (after
Protected by the Texas Rancher), new doctor McKenzie Taylor encounters a terrible accident while traveling to a remote Alaskan village to start her new job. The man she rescues from a flooded riverbed has no memory of who he is or how he got there; in fact, he knows nothing for certain except that he is sure that his life—and now, possibly, Kenzie’s—is in grave danger. They’ll need to solve the mystery of who he is and why he ended up in the icy river before it is too late for them both.
VERDICT Unfortunately, neither the dynamics of village life nor the threats to the protagonists’ lives feel particularly grounded in reality here, and the romance between the two leads lacks substance.
