Jane Osborne seems to have a perfect life—successful surgeon husband, well-adjusted 12-year-old daughter, fulfilling volunteer work, great relationships with her mother and sister—but it’s all a lie. Her marriage is a sham. Her husband is gay but not out, because he fears ruining his career. Her daughter keeps getting into trouble at her private school. Her volunteer work is a boring drag, and some of it (like planning an important hospital fundraiser) is expected because of whom she’s married to, which she resents. Her mother often doesn’t know who she is, and her sister always needs money. One day, it all becomes too much, and Jane snaps. Her public breakdown and resulting arrest land her in a course for first-offenders. As Jane interacts with the other women in her class and spends time with the officer who handled her case, she begins to reevaluate her life.
