Sisters of Night and Fog

Virginia d’Albert-Lake’s French husband wants her to return to the U.S. as German forces begin their assault and occupation of Paris in 1940. She will not leave her husband and her adopted country. Instead, she works for the cause in every way she can to get them through the war. Newly married Violette Szabo is quickly widowed when she volunteers to fight for the liberation of the French from occupying German forces. Robuck (Hemingway’s Girl; Call Me Zelda) tells the story of how these two women eventually connect. It also denotes their representation of the bravery and sacrifices of all women in war, in their steadfast and non-conventional support of the resistance, or the actual employment of their skills and talents on the frontlines. Narrator Caroline Hewitt does an amazing job with the various dialects and accents and adds real emotion to this heartrending story.
