Cookies are delicious, but not everyone wants, or needs, three dozen cookies of the same variety. Building on the concept of his
Small Batch Bakes, Kimber (inaugural winner of the
Great British Bake Off) has written a book focused on cookies in small batches. Bakers will find classics, specialty delicacies, old favorites, and new recipes to try. Recipes make between four to six cookies, frequently use a whole egg, and let one use up leftover ingredients. The cookies are sorted into categories: “Soft & Sumptuous,” “Crispy & Crunchy,” “Ooey Gooey,” “Sandwich Cookies,” “Chewy,” and “Chocolate Heaven.” This is a British title, so the ingredients are listed first by metric weight, then imperial weight, and lastly in cups/teaspoons. When ingredients have different names across the pond, U.S. names are given too. Cooks should read the introductory “Boring but Important Bit,” as egg sizes (and other products) vary from the UK to the U.S. Vegan and gluten-free recipes are sprinkled throughout the book, and some recipes include notes for ingredient swaps or tips.
VERDICT The latest from popular British baker Kimber is a must-purchase.
